I've been absent. The month of April was a slow, horrifying grind as our loved one went into emerge for one little thing on April 5 and never came out. She crossed over April 30th 6:30 AM from Pancreatic Cancer. To help channel my grief, I wrote Crossroads a song written in the aftermath of loss for her. Have a listen below
CROSSROADS
You left your coat on my chair
Like you might come back for it
The eggs sat cold in the pan
And the room held its breath
I asked the sky that dumb old joke
Why did the chicken cross the road?
But all I heard in my chest
Was your name on the load
To get away from this
Or get to something new?
I kept my hand on the door
Like it might still reach you
The other side means you
The other side means gone
I will see you on the other side
I will see you on the other side
The other side means dawn
The other side means blue
I will see you on the other side
If the road still leads to you
I watched one cross at the light
Small feet in the rain
No fear in its little frame
Just a line and a name
Maybe love is like that too
A blind little leap through
You and me, same old road
Different reasons, same view
So if you turn your face
And take that hidden lane
I won’t call it a loss
If it can call you back again
The other side means you
The other side means gone
I will see you on the other side
I will see you on the other side
The other side means dawn
The other side means blue
I will see you on the other side
If the road still leads to you
Maybe the joke was always cruel
A crossing is a kind of prayer
One foot out, one foot in
Hoping something waits there
If you’re already halfway through
Then hold that light for me
I’ll be the fool on this curb
Learning how to let things be
The other side means you
The other side means gone
I will see you on the other side
I will see you on the other side
The other side means dawn
The other side means blue
I will see you on the other side
If the road still leads to you
